Unto 7th Generation

Some say: "The Earth is our Mother; we should take care of her." While others think the Earth is an easy receptacle for our wastes and toxins. How can I, one person or even one family, really make a difference? And is it that important anyway?

We see so much hype on TV and in newspapers on the growing devestation of the earth's environment and the loss of so many species of animals, plants and trees. The oceans are becoming a sewer but when I look around my neighborhood it is so easy to just not see the problem.

So is it hype or is it time to aweaken to the fact that this is the only world we live on and the one we are leaving to our children and grandchildren. I appreciate the teaching of many native people I've been privilaged to work with and study with in different areas of the world. Often they say "unto the 7th generation" when making decisions. In other words .... STOP and consider how this action or non action will affect future generations.

If someone were to come along and dump a load of garbage in your front yard, I'd assume uou'd be a bit miffed yet daily we are dumping and dumping and dumping into the waterways, earth and skies that hold the very elements you and I need for survival.

So let us talk about it and find solutions that we can do to make a difference!

The problem with Greendimes is that they are exploiting consumer nusances, and leveraging the "green" movement to make a buck. They use environmental concern and charitable goodness as an alternative to traditional marketing. They have no measurable impact on the amount of mail sent and produced because the marketers who use these list will send their junk mail to someone who's not on these do-not-mail lists. Their meter-o-good is actually a feel good marketing farce.
That 5 million dollars greendimes is "giving" away, came from a venture capital group, and you can be sure they want a return on their "investment". That return has nothing to do with the number of people on some do-not-mail list, its about the "green" dollar. The more altruistic a company claims to be, makes me want to understand what's actually going on behind the scenes.

Just thought you may want to be aware....keep up the good work! Thanks....

Yes! Let's get rid of junk mail!! 41pounds.org is a nonprofit service service that stops your junk mail – including catalogs. 41pounds.org donates more than 1/3 of the fee to its nonprofit partners such as StopGlobalWarming.org, American Forests and Habitat for Humanity chapters. It costs only $8.20 a year (2 cents a day). You can check it out at www.41pounds.org.

GreenDimes here,

Thanks for the amazing write-up. We've seen great responses from our 5 million campaign.

As for anonymous commentor, we've always been open that we're not a non-profit, but we are trying to create a brand where if you think of greendimes or tonic, you know a good chunk of your money goes toward something good. i think that's pretty cool.

41pounds--don't get me started. At least greendimes admits their bottom line is the buck. It was a lot more fun when you both traded barbs about neither of you being a non-profit. 41pounds is espousing that they are a non-profit....you copied greendimes with the treeplanting and then when you relized they were eating your lunch you re-invented yourselves as a non profit(which your not) in order to take advantage of the do gooders and real non-profits ...don't get me started.
